I’ve been painting a lot of small canvases lately: as small as 2.5 inches squared. A few days ago I did two quick underpaintings on larger canvases and yesterday I completed one of them. As I was painting yesterday I hit a point where I really felt that I was in a groove or in the zone. It felt great! I haven’t felt that groove in a while.
The canvas size is about 24″x30″.

Here are some new paintings, 4″x4″, that I’ve just added to my Etsy shop. The first two were painted from photos I took in Israel and the last one is from a photo I took in Nova Scotia.
Enjoy!

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of teaching, volunteering, and taking courses and haven’t been painting too much. Here is one piece that I just started last week in acrylic and then moved to oil. I started this one pretty loose and hope to keep it that way by the end. I still needs some adjustments of the hair and clothes and colour in general. I started off dark and will go lighter in the face as I continue. This is a portrait of a friend of mine. I would like to do a larger painting of her at some point. I can’t wait to post the final painting.

This is a painting that started as a demo in an adult acrylic painting class that I’m teaching. I was demonstrating how to start a painting by finding the main shapes and tones and building up from there. Afterwards in my studio, I worked the painting to completion in oil. I often like to use acrylic as an underpainting as it is fast drying.
This painting is available for purchase here.

This is my most recent listing in my etsy shop. I’ve been going through old photos of mine looking for landscapes to paint. This one is from northern Israel.
I’m waiting for the weather to turn nicer here so I can do some plein air painting.

River in Maine
My DH and I spent our honeymoon driving through New England and the Maritime provinces. We enjoyed most of the scenery from the car because it rained the entire time. This painting was created from one of the photos I took when we got out of the car and into the rain to admire the view. This area was where we saw the most fall colours in the US during the trip and the rain brought out all the greens and reds and oranges. This painting is available at my etsy shop!

My first blog post!
This painting is from a hill by the water in Port-Bruce, Ontario. My DH and I have some friends who bought a house in the area and we were invited last fall for a visit. I took lots of photos but this hill caught my attention.
